CULT 2016

CULT - Hommage à Bertalan Székely, light installation, size variable, 2016

The Hungarian historical painter Bertalan Székely loved the village Szada, and he is still celebrated by the citizens. His Atelier – if not the whole village – kept his aura. This, non visible, cultist phenomenon appears in the installation. The footsteps of the painter stays in the studio flour, since he is present until today.

The work refers to the definition of “heteropotia”. Michel Foucault uses this term to describe spaces that have multiple layers of meanings, more than what immediately meets the eye. In general, a heterotopia is a physical representation of the utopia, but – opposite to that – it’s existing in real space. The cemetery for example, carries the thought of death, or the museum, where art changes the way of daily view. The atelier is also one of this kind, where a personality augment the real space, and stays within.

A festő lábnyoma műtermének parkettáján marad, hiszen Székely Bertalan jelenléte Szadán a mai napig érezhető.

A fény installáció a “heteropotia” –ra reflektál.
