DIGITAL HIDE / interactive Augmented Reality installation / Rietveld UnCut ‘THE LIVING OBJECT’ 2011 de Brakke Grond, Amszterdam [2011]

In my work I am focusing on the differences between living and non living things in a new perspective. I think Kleist’s essay: On the Marionette Theatre is asking a lot of questions about human and created objects like marionette, and we can also read the text as if the marionette were the robots of today. If we go further the human and the artificial life would also give us the reality (life) and the created (digital) world. We are living in the reality, but we are spending more and more time in the cyber space, our existence really depends on the technologies in a sense that we are not able to imagine our lives without our creatures.

IDEA:
Black square is hiding the visitors and showing my idea during the process. I intend to create an installation which can make us invisible in the digital world.
While I screen the reality, I use the technologies backwards, not giving an extra shape, like animation, sound, or three dimensional forms, but to detract from the space.
Certainly the viewer’s personality is the best to hide in this manner, but as an interactive installation, the way of using and imagining to use the system is just something we have to consider, and explore.

TECHNOLOGY:
My project is built by Augmented Reality codes. The AR is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer-generated sensory input such as sound or graphics. It is related to a more general concept called Mediated Reality which is a view of reality modified by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality.
